Eli is the CEO and owner after having purchased the business from his dad, founder Mike Gillespie, in 2018. He’s been here for awhile. He started working for Gillespie Insurance Services in June, 2001 as a personal insurance agent. He moved over into commercial insurance in 2004. He earned his Certified Insurance Counselor designation in 2008, and his Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist designation in 2014. Although not a morning person, Eli gets up early at least four times a week to do the 5am Crossfit class. He’s involved with his church and plays keyboards in the band. But most of all, he loves hanging with his wife Candace and their sons Samuel, Jacob, and Hamilton. He’s way too into cinnamon rolls and needs to back it off a little.
Candace is Eli’s wife and co-owner of Gillespie Insurance Services. She is the mother of three boys – Samuel, Jacob, and Hamilton, a home school teacher, a part time You Tuber showing off her crafting skills, and also does a lot of work for the agency too. She balances the books and makes sure the office is well stocked with supplies. She’s creative and not afraid to take on any project. If you happen to walk into Eli’s office, you’ll see a beautiful pinewood desk. Ikea? Office Depot? Ashley Furniture? Nope. Candace built it. That’s right – she doesn’t just take care of the office, she makes furniture for the office. She’s an incredible lady to say the least. (Can you tell who wrote this bio?)
Erika is our commercial account manager and the newest member of the team, having started here in 2019. Although new to us, she has a long history in insurance, starting in 1998 as a health agent. She made her way to the Property and Casualty side (the good side) in 2001 and has specialized in managing commercial insurance since 2013. Erika is a SoCal native: she was born and raised in Boyle Heights and might just be the Dodgers’ #1 fan. She has two children that she loves spending time with and she counts listening to crime podcasts – particularly the ones on organized crime and cold cases – as one of her favorite hobbies.

Evan started in July 2017 knowing nothing about insurance and has now progressed into a fully-fledged Commercial Customer Service Representative. He processes the changes to our clients’ policies, makes certificates, prepares quotes, runs reports, and lots more. Evan took his insurance game to the next level in 2019 when he got his P&C license. Now he’s bonafide. Outside of the office, Evan does a little bit of everything. First and foremost, Evan enjoys spending time with his wife Sara. But in those off times when those two are not staring deeply into each other’s eyes, he enjoys riding dirt bikes, mountain bikes, and playing a variety of musical instruments, which include – but are not limited to – bass, drums, and piano. He plays in the same church band Eli plays in. In fact, that’s how they met.
Drew has been with us since August, 2018. He’s developed the skills to become an effective Commercial Customer Service Representative and we at GIS are super proud of his progress. Drew comes to us with a degree in journalism from BIOLA University and a passion for all things sports. Despite his West Coast roots, Drew is a major Boston Red Sox fan and had to contain his excitement when his team beat our team, the Dodgers, in the 2018 World Series. What we love about Drew – in addition to his compassionate restraint – is his Seinfeld-like humor, his steady work ethic, and his willingness to face the unknown and jump right into this insurance game.
Lydia joined the team in early 2019 and plays a crucial for the agency. Having been in the insurance industry since 2003, she has a massive amount of insurance knowledge and skills which she deploys regularly as our Commercial Coverage Analyst. Behind the scenes, she reviews our clients’ policies and looks for the missing coverages. When a client of ours appears to be missing a coverage or is lacking a critical policy, Lydia writes it down in our Analysis and Recommendations letter we send to our commercial clients, and then sends it out. When she’s not digging in deep into insurance paperwork, Lydia is a family woman. With her husband and two energetic boys, she keeps busy!
